Lourdes Cruz campaign for Yorba Linda City Council is off to a strong start. Her campaign kickoff was well attended and portrayed a catchy campaign phrase “Homegrown Leadership”. The event featured local voters and Congressional Candidate Gil Cisneros.
Cruz is a long-time resident of the City of Yorba Linda. She attended Yorba Linda public schools for her K-12 education and her family has been residents of Yorba Linda for over 30 years.
Growing up, Lourdes was very active in countless church and school activities. Today, she has over 10 years of service as a public servant. She has served as a community outreach specialist, a contract services monitor that pushed for transparency and accountable leadership, a therapeutic behavioral services coach that helped suicidal children and teens, and a senior social worker that took on cases involving sexual abuse allegations.
Throughout her career, Lourdes has devoted herself to community service and to giving back to her hometown. She has facilitated bilingual educational groups focusing on domestic violence, parenting, anger management, communication skills, and male batterers and predators. She is committed to working with families and parents throughout Orange County and understands the importance of residents developing local decision-making strategies and engaging with their local city council and school board. Lourdes strongly believes public representatives should be available to the community and should work together with community members to improve the quality of life and public safety in every city.
Lourdes graduated from Cal State University Fullerton with a bachelor’s degree in human services and anthropology and an M.A. in Anthropology. She has received several awards for working with undocumented students, including the LULAC Woman of the Year Award, the Higher Education Award from Senator Lou Correa, and the Orange County Human Relations Community Service Award. Lourdes is a community leader, service club member, published author, consultant, presenter, researcher, trainer, instructor, and a 2018 candidate for Yorba Linda City Council.
